Nightlife
Liverpool's gay scene is centred on the Gay Quarter around Stanley St, Cumberland St, Victoria St and Eberle St in the city centre. Like the rest of the city, this area has also seen massive investment in recent years.
The scene has a varied mix of bars and clubs with something to suit everyone's taste. From the tacky to the trendy, the loud to the laid back, the Liverpool scene has it all.
The Lisbon, the Curzon and the Masquerade are the old die-hards, each offering something different from the next. The Lisbon, a favourite meeting point, is renowned for its ornate ceiling inside. Known locally as 'the Lizzie', you'll see most of Liverpool's scene queens here at some point, shooting pool, or flaunting their stuff on the dancefloor.
The Curzon is probably the most male dominated bar and has a reputation for being slightly cruisy. The Masquerade, billed as 'Liverpool's friendliest gay bar' is also another adored drinking hole on the scene, and home to two of Liverpool's best known drag and cabaret acts Aunty Marlene and Doreen Kumkwik.
Take a short walk down Victoria Street, you'll find Pink, Heaven, and Destination, all newbies on the block and all essential ports of call on any respectable pub crawl round the Gay Quarter.
G-Bar, on Eberle Street, is perhaps the busiest after hours club on the gay scene and opens til silly o'clock at weekends. Across the road is Garlands - Liverpool's original gay superclub.
